Project Description

CONTRACT NAME: WBV-MRL 1.1-Engineered Alternative Measures, Oak Point To Oakville

LOCATION: Plaquemines Parish, LA

OWNER: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Scope of Work

The Oak Point to Oakville interim levee raise was an emergency response project to temporarily raise three miles of levee along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, LA.  Due to the emergency nature of the project, the construction right-of-ways obtained from local land owners were not as generous as would typically be required for levee projects of this magnitude.  This presented access and logistical issues in addition to the construction of the levee on an extremely steep 2:1 slope.

Cycle reached out to Kiewit as a teaming partner on this project.  Kiewit has significant past experience with accelerated construction projects and this 60 calendar day project was no different.  Cycle’s local expertise and Kiewit’s abundant resources combined to deliver a successful project for our client.  The project was built on an aggressive 24/7 schedule that was coordinated to have as many as 3 shifts per day.  The 3 mile project included the supply and installation of 157,000 cubic yards of embankment, approximately 7,000 tons of aggregate, and 3 miles of slope pavement demolition and reconstruction.
